METRA at the forefront of promoting the culture of aluminum in architecture

On the day of Tuesday, April 14, 2015 METRA, represented by Eng. Andrea Mafezzoni, will attend a training at the Department of Architecture of the University of Bologna.

Students of  the degree course in "Materials and Design of Construction Systems", will have the chance to see in practice the advantages of the application of aluminum in architecture, thanks to the testimony of a leading company in the sector such as METRA.

In particular, Eng. Mafezzoni will present the use of METRA systems through some case histories of international importance  that are able to meet the most different  needs of technical and aesthetic design of buildings.

“Italy the Extraordinary Commonplace”

A film made by the Ministry of Economic Development that denies many commonplaces about Italy and highlights the export orientation and openness to international markets.

In this field, a well-known example is represented by METRA, company with over fifty years of history and leader in the extrusion of aluminium profiles for industrial and architectural applications.

Metra exports the "Made in Italy" worldwide by combining technology and design, thanks to a complete production cycle and machinery of the latest generation.

Metra Windows and doors for Bosco Verticale, the most beautiful skyscraper in the world

The skyscraper Bosco Verticale in Milan, designed by Boeri Studio (Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca, Giovanni La Varra) has been declared the most innovative skyscraper in the world beating, with the unanimous opinion of the jury, the more than 800 projects registered at the International Highrise Award (IHP).

Consisting of two towers, a hundred and ten and eighty meters high, the building overlooks the large public park of "I Giardini di Porta Nuova" and hosts a total of 111 apartments with sizes ranging from 70 to 500 square meters. The skyscraper presents itself as a forest developed in height that, according to the intentions of the designer, regenerates environment and biodiversity by ensuring the best performance of environmental sustainability and the highest standards of well-being to its residents.

The entrance of the building was realised employing the curtain wall system Poliedra-Sky 50, the remaining part of the structure was obtained by the use of a curtain wall with prefabricated units, specifically designed to meet the needs of technical and architectural designer, and by means of the system Urano Wall used as a cladding of the wall. Excellent performance in terms of energy saving and thermal comfort.

Concerning the windows and doors, there have been installed windows and casement doors of the METRA system NC 65 STH with hidden frames and lifting-sliding doors of the METRA system NC-S 150 STH, both conveniently modified to meet the rigid technical specifications in terms of statics, thermal and acoustic insulation.

The Bosco Verticale project opens the way for the development of eco-friendly skyscrapers and can be considered as a prototype for the future cities.

Once more, the METRA aluminium systems contribute to the success of an important, internationally recognized realization.
